3S Landscape Design

The owners wanted a plan to renovate their old garden, keeping some features such as citrus trees but creating more usable outdoor living spaces with plenty of room to grow fruit and vegetables and a habitat garden.

The proposed design shows the creation of three garden rooms. There is a secluded grassy area on the left of the site with a Japanese flower arranging garden containing flowering quince and camellias. A new gazebo provides a covered entertaining area, extending past a brick paved area leading to a pergola. A BBQ could be placed under the pergola. Between the gazebo and the pergola there are three raised garden beds for vegetables, each with a broad brick ledge surround to provide extra seating. A secluded habitat garden of Australian plants occupies the rear right hand side of the block. The flowering shrubs and bird bath will attract birds and provide a screen from the rest of the garden so the seat at the end of the path can be enjoyed in privacy.

The espaliered citrus tees are retained on the back fence and more fruit trees including persimmon, fig and mulberry added. Passionfruit and berries such as boysenberries and raspberries will be trained up the fences.
